Creativity and innovation are what drive our industry forward and deserve to be celebrated. In this spirit, WeAr, the leading global B2B magazine for fashion & footwear, has partnered with JOOR, the world’s premier wholesale management ecosystem, to bring you the inaugural BeFAB Awards—honoring exceptional design and entrepreneurship in the global fashion industry.
In addition to the Best Fashion Retailer of the World award established by WeAr in 2011, the BeFAB Awards honor the following categories: Womenswear, Menswear, Footwear, Denim, Accessories, Innovations, Personalities, Industry Insiders, and Sustainability. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners—we applaud your accomplishments and can’t wait to see what the future brings.
Our Womenswear category consists of elegance, femininity, conceptual detailing, and cultural celebration. It consists of eight talented designers, including Gudu, Lanvin, Schiaparelli, Farm Rio, Mugler, Marine Serre, Jacquemus, and Y/Project.
We chose to go with Lanvin as our winner. Combining elegance, femininity, and modernity, Lanvin promotes polished glamor and femininity in their designs. Among their womenswear line exists the essence of the label’s lightly fin-de-siecle aesthetic.
From modern tailoring to avant-garde design, the Menswear category has it all. The nominees include Raf Simons, Tommy Hilfiger, Thom Browne, JW Anderson, Stone Island, Hugo Boss, Craig Green, and Magliano.
We ultimately chose Thom Browne as our winner. Their unique collection including an elemental gray suit takes on a story of its own. It stands apart from the rest, using traditional fabrics in innovative and interpretive ways.
The BeFab Award’s Footwear category is made up of footwear for all occasions. It encompasses eight impeccable designers, including Balenciaga, Amina Muaddi, Manolo Blahnik, Axel Arigato, Autry, Copenhagen Studios, Aeyde, and Mach & Mach.
For the winner, we chose Balenciaga’s practical, stylish cult-status footwear. While Balenciaga is often thought of as just a sophisticated, fashion-forward brand, its line of athletic shoes is equally as impressive.
While style is different for everyone, denim is unanimously popular worldwide. In turn, the BeFab Awards is proud to include its Denim category. It’s made up of eight designers, including Frame, Guess, True Religion, Mother, Moussy Vintage, Facon Jacmin, A New Kind of Blue, and Kseniaschnaider.
And our winner is Guess, a company known for its innovative denim, on-point trends, and industry-leading innovations. From jeans and tops to jumpsuits and accessories, they have a vast selection of stylish denim products for kids and adults.
From hats and sunglasses to handbags, our Accessories category is composed of various designers. Nominees include Gucci, Gentle Monster, Dior, Coperni, Saint Laurent, Off-White, Celine, and Loewe.
The overall winner is Loewe, a unique luxury brand established nearly 175 years ago. With their accumulated craft knowledge and the union of new technologies and innovative thinking, Loewe consistently produces truly modern objects of desire.
From high-performance fabric to digital-only fashion houses, there are many impressive innovations within the fashion industry. BeFab’s Innovations category includes several innovations, including Polartec, The Fabricant, Sorona, Naia By Eastman, PVH, Good On You, Drest, and Algiknit.
The 2022 BeFab Awards Innovation winner is the Fabricant. This digital-only fashion house was founded in 2018 and is widely famed as a pioneering example of craftsmanship. Not only are they innovative but more sustainable as well.
The BeFab Awards celebrate not only fashion but the creative minds behind it. The nominees in our Personalities category include Daniel Grieder, Nicolaj Reffstrup, Jose Neves, Cecilie Thorsmark, Karen Katz, Raffaello Napoleone, and Bernard Arnault.
Our winner is Portuguese entrepreneur and creator of Farfetch, Jose Neves. He offers not just a massive online fashion retailer, but also a highly useful tool that helps other retailers digitize. Most recently he also purchased the New Guards Group.
Where would the fashion industry be without its showrooms? In turn, the BeFab Awards has an Industry Insiders category, including the following nominees: Riccardo Grassi Showroom, Findings Showroom, Tomorrow Showroom, Fashion Club 70, New Guards Group, Reference Studios, Brama, and Itochu.
We ultimately decided on Findings Showroom, founded by Dierdre Roffoni as our winner. With a lavishly designed L.A.-based main showroom, they are proud to house several womenswear lines in an ever-expanding number of locations.
To celebrate the brands working on making their products sustainable, the BeFab Awards presents its Sustainability category, including the following designers: Stella McCartney, Global Fashion Agenda, The RealReal, Neonyt, Isko, Selfridges Project Earth, Stem, and Ecoalf.
And the winner is Stella Mccartney. Ultimately, very few designers participated so heavily in reshaping the industry for sustainability.
